Electronic Reserves Platform Retirement
The Fall 2023 semester will be the final semester UVM Libraries will offer its e-reserve document-hosting platform. The platform has reached its end-of-life, and we’ve seen a steep decline in use in recent years. Together, these reasons give us cause to retire the platform at the end of December 2023. PDFs, links to documents, e-books and streaming files that reside in the e-reserve system can be posted directly to Brightspace courses. Library staff, in conjunction with the Center for Teaching and Learning, will work with those faculty who are currently using e-reserves to facilitate the transition to Brightspace.
To request e-reserve documents from previous semesters, please write to howe.reserve@uvm.edu by October 16, 2023 to ensure access for the Spring 2024 semester.
Please note that traditional book and hard-copy reserve services will continue. Reserves staff will also continue to provide scanned copies of journal articles and book chapters owned and/or licensed by UVM Libraries to UVM faculty.
Warning concerning copyright restrictions
The Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code), governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted material. Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request for, or later uses, a photocopy or reproduction for purposes in excess of "fair use," that user may be liable for copyright infringement. This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if, in its judgement, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of the copyright law.
NOTE: For PDFs used in previous semesters the Copyright Permission Information section is required.
