Library Cards

UVM Library Cards

Your UVM ID card is your library card. It is non-transferable and must be used in person. Any university or special library card that does not have a picture must be presented with a second official ID (e.g. driver's license).

Library Cards

The UVM Libraries offer borrowing cards for Alumni, Guest Borrowers, and Guest Faculty. See below for more details.

Holders of library borrower cards may:

  • Check out a maximum of 10 books from the circulating collections of UVM Libraries at any one time.

Library borrower cards:

  • Are non-transferable and may be used only in person. For your protection, we require a second form of identification (e.g. driver's license) with your borrower's card to charge out books.
  • Do not provide off-campus access to subscribed research databases. However, you do have access to an array of in-house and web-based databases marked for public use through the UVM Libraries Home Page within library premises. Check with a reference librarian to find those resources most pertinent to your needs.
  • Do not include use of UVM's Interlibrary Loan Office. If you need to obtain materials NOT available at UVM, contact your local public or school library for interlibrary loans through the Vermont Department of Libraries.
  • Do not provide access to any University computer labs.

Any library material checked out may be recalled for use by a UVM affiliate. Materials requested for course reserve are subject to immediate recall. If you to not return a recalled item by the date indicated on the recall notice, you will be charged a recall overdue fee, and you will lose borrowing privileges until the book is returned to the library.

Borrowing privileges for holders of other library borrower cards may be revoked after you have been billed for two overdue and/or lost items.

Alumni Borrower Card

Alumni Borrower Cards are available to all graduates of the University of Vermont. Cards may be obtained at the CATcard Service Center located on the first floor of the Billings Library. There is a $10.00 processing charge for the card, charged by the CATcard Service Center. Materials from Media Resources do not circulate to Alumni borrowers. Alumni borrowers may not access subscription library databases from outside the library, but you may make use of these resources in the library.

Guest Borrower Card

Guest Borrower Cards are available free of charge to any resident of Vermont, 18 years of age or older, not enrolled as a student in another educational institution. Media Resources materials do not circulate to Guest Borrowers.

Guest Faculty Borrower Card

Any faculty member from another college or university who will be in the area for extended stay, whether it be a year, a semester, or a summer, may obtain a Guest Faculty Borrower card. Present a current university ID and either a letter from the home institution or an OCLC Reciprocal Faculty Borrowers Card from a participating institution to Howe Circulation. Phone (802-656-2023) or email howecirc@uvm.edu for an application. Media Resources materials do not circulate to Guest Faculty.

Vermont Consortium of Academic Libraries
