Digital Burlington Free Press Archive Now Available

Date:
Saturday, August 15, 2020

The Burlington Free Press, with extensive coverage of global, national and especially local issues, events and people, is an important primary source for researchers in many disciplines.

The UVM Libraries and the Burlington Free Press have worked together over the years to make the newspaper available to researchers. In the nineteenth century, they gathered paper issues into bound volumes. In the 1950s, they collaborated on a historical records preservation program to microfilm the paper issues. Now, the UVM Libraries present the rich resources of this Vermont newspaper online through the Burlington Free Press Archive (1848-2007) in the ProQuest Historical Newspapers: Vermont Collection.

The Burlington Free Press Archive  provides searchable full text of the daily edition, beginning with the first issue in 1848 and extending through 2007. Every issue includes the complete paper, cover to cover. The digital archive is available anywhere, any time to UVM students, faculty and staff. Community members visiting the Howe, Dana and Silver Special Collections Libraries can also search the digital Burlington Free Press.

Search tip: For best results, use the advanced search option and choose “anywhere.”
