A Travel Book, Fred Martin, Arion Press, 1976
The spring semester exhibit in Special Collections features a selection of books from the Arion Press. The press has been making beautiful limited edition books since the mid 1970s, carrying on a strong tradition of California fine printing. Made mostly by hand under the direction of publisher Andrew Hoyem, the books have been described as “marvels to behold and a pleasure to touch.” The National Trust for Historic Preservation has recognized the Arion Press, along with its M & H Foundry, as an “irreplaceable historical and cultural legacy.” Arion Press books are eagerly sought by book collectors, libraries and museums. UVM Special Collections holds twenty-seven titles that Arion has produced, thanks in part to donations from firends of Special Collections. The exhibit will be on display through June, 2018.
