Abstract:
Vermont is presently in the precarious position of trying to simultaneously bring its environment and its economy into a suitable and reasonable balance. In recent years, the unplanned, uncoordinated, and uncontrolled use of the State's environment has resulted in certain actions which have not met the demands and needs of the people of the State of Vermont. ... The intent of this thesis is to outline the intricate and complex problems of Vermont's environment and economy; to cite what govermental actions have been and are being taken to meet those problems; to present reactions of Vermonters to governmental regulations and proposals; to analyze some of the costs associated with environmental regulations; and to gain an appreciation of the stress being exerted by development on Vermont.
