Burning an illusion

The story of Pat, a young British-born woman of color who seeks nothing more than to settle into working life in West London, with her flat and office job, and her boyfriend Del. But as she proceeds down the path towards middle-class culture, seeking further stability through marriage, the false arrest and merciless beating of her boyfriend by police impels a turning point in both their lives. While in prison, Del asks Pat to bring him books on Black history, curious, she reads them first. As she becomes more politically aware, her perspective changes and she begins to question her middle-class aspirations and attitudes.
