Contra connections two celebrated documentaries by David Millstone about traditional and contemporary contra dancing /
"Paid to eat ice cream" is a documentary on New England contra dancing and its music, mainly as seen through the eyes of Bob McQuillen, a dancer, musician, and composer. Most of the discussion focuses on music and musicians (among them Ralph Page, Duke Miller, and Dudley Laufman, as well as McQuillen himself), but examples of contra dancing are seen in archival and contemporary footage. "What's not to like?" is a documentary about Northern Spy, a contra dance band based in the Upper Connecticut River Valley of Vermont and New Hampshire.

Other way back dancing with Dudley, a contradance documentary /
"Musician and caller Dudley Laufman was the charismatic figure at the center of a dance revival in the late 1960s and 1970s whose effects can still be seen in today's vibrant contra dance scene. Leader of the Canterbury Country Dance Orchestra, whose seminal recordings brought traditional New England dance tunes to musicians around the country, Dudley was the caller who introduced a generation to the traditional repertoire ... Weaving comments by more than 20 callers, musicians, and dancers with rare archival and contemporary dance footage, this documentary provides the definitive look at a career that helped shape today's dancing." --From publisher's description.
