Good news! Our second batch has now been uploaded to the Library of Congress Chronicling America site. You can access all of our content–including these new issues–here. This second batch fills in a gap in the Rutland Herald, covering 1845-1849, and so makes a continuous run of Rutland Herald issues from 1836-1854. The new batch also extends the available Burlington Weekly Free Press to 1895, giving access to a continuous run of the title from 1836-1895. We are very excited to have this new material available and anticipate fascinating research topics may emerge from this fully searchable online collection.

We have two more batches in process at the Library of Congress–over 20,000 more pages–that we expect will be available in the coming weeks. These batches include the remainder of the Burlington Weekly Free Press, completing the run of the title from 1836-1920, and will add the Vermont Phoenix from Brattleboro, covering 1836-1873, and with other batches in process will extend the run of the Phoenix from 1836-1922. Subsequent batches in process currently include the Vermont Transcript (1864-1869), Rutland Daily Globe (1873-1877), Windham County Democrat (published in part by women’s rights pioneer Clarina Nichols, with issues from 1837-1853), and Montpelier’s Watchman & State Journal title family from 1836-1910. These titles will become available in the coming months.
