Help requested! The Libraries are about to start weeding

Date:
Thursday, June 22, 2023

Image of brightly colored journals on crowded shelves

The Libraries are about to start weeding duplicated and other low need materials before a major re-shelving project, and we would like UVM faculty to help. Please visit the Libraries' Deselection Activities pages for more information about the details of this weed, the lists of materials, how to give feedback, and information about weeding in general.

The primary goal of this project is to make enough space to for us to continue to buy print books.  Our first weeding target is a large number of bound print journals and other serials that we have perpetual access to or that are Open Access from a reliable publisher. Very importantly, this means that you will still have access to their content online. We are also going to weed a small number of books out of Howe Library, Dana Health Sciences Library and the Library Research Annex, most of which are duplicates, outdated, excluded by our current practices, or government documents that are archived elsewhere.  We'd like to know from you which bound journals are critical to keep in print for teaching or research - please let us know before October 1st!

The Libraries also bought a number of new journal backfiles to support this project, making a large amount of new archival content permanently available to UVM  - see Related New Purchases for more information.
