Ask a Librarian
Interlibrary Loan supplies materials not owned by the UVM Libraries for eligible users.
If a UVM book is checked out and you are an eligible user, you can request it via ILL -- PLEASE indicate in the "Notes" field that "UVM owns this book, but someone else has checked it out."
University of Vermont students, staff, and faculty may use this service.
Class textbooks/required material can not be ordered through ILL. Why?
Items that typically do not circulate through ILL include: reference sets, whole periodicals sets, software, genealogical materials, test materials, maps, unpublished works, and rare and archival materials. Please contact the ILL staff with questions or read the ILL FAQ.
Interlibrary Loan works best for users with one-time, short-term needs. Users who need items long-term should recommend a purchase.
Requests must be submitted online through ILLiad. You can log in with your UVM NetID and password here. If you are having trouble with the online form, contact us at 656-2242.
Please supply as much information as possible concerning the material you need.
- Material is usually ordered 1-2 business days after the request is received.
- Copies usually arrive in 1-5 business days.
- Loans usually arrive in 5-14 business days.
- Material that is difficult to obtain (e.g. media, rare items, etc.) may take longer.
To check on the status of your request, log in to your ILLiad account here.
You will be notified by e-mail when your materials arrive. ILL materials that need to be picked up will be held at the Circulation Desk, Bailey/Howe Library.
