The Vermont Newspaper Project (VTNP), a collaborative
endeavor
between the University
of Vermont
Libraries and the Vermont
Department of Libraries, was part of a national effort
administered
by the
United States Newspaper Program at the Library
of Congress and funded by the National
Endowment for the
Humanities in order to preserve and provide access to the
nation's newspapers. VTNP was funded from 1997 to 2001, and
produced a freely
accessible database
of ~1,000 historical newspapers dating from the 1780s to the
present that were cataloged and microfilmed under USNP guidelines.
