Setting Accessibility Options for People Who Have Difficulty Using the Keyboard or Mouse

If you have difficulty using the keyboard or mouse, you can quickly set options using the Accessibility Wizard. Mobility options include turning on StickyKeys, MouseKeys and FilterKeys, getting extra keyboard help in programs, selecting cursor size and color options, mouse button configuration, and mouse pointer speed.

This option in the Accessibility Wizard allows you to:
  • Use StickyKeys so you don't have to hold down two keys at once.
  • Set Windows to ignore repeated keystrokes.
  • Set Windows to play a sound whenever you press CAPS LOCK, NUM LOCK, or SCROLL LOCK.
  • Display extra keyboard help whenever it's available.
  • Use the numeric keypad instead of the mouse to move the mouse pointer.
  • Select the size and color of the mouse cursor.
  • Configure the mouse for right- or left-handed use.
  • Adjust the speed of the mouse pointer.
  • Save settings to a file.
Step 1
  • Select Start, or press CTRL+ESC, or press the Windows logo key.
  • Point to Programs, or press P.
  • Point to Accessories, or move there using the arrow keys and then press ENTER.
  • Point to Accessibility, or move there and then press ENTER.
  • Click on Accessibility Wizard, or move there and then press ENTER.
Step 2
In the Welcome to the Accessibility Wizard dialog box:
  • Select Next, or press N.
Step 3
In the Text Size dialog box:
  • Select the smallest text you can read with a mouse click or using the arrow keys.
  • Select Next, or press N.
Step 4
In the Display Settings dialog box:
  • Select the options you want
  • Select Next, or press N.
Step 5
In the Set Wizard Options dialog box:
  • Select the I have difficulty using the keyboard or mouse check box, or press K.
  • Select Next, or press N, to continue through the wizard (Click on, or use arrow keys and press ENTER, to select the appropriate options).
Step 6
In the Completing the Accessibility Wizard dialog box:
  • Press ENTER to save your changes and exit the wizard.
