Access and Parking at Library Buildings

All library buildings have handicapped access and nearby parking. Please see specific directions for each library. CATS, the campus bus service, has stops near all library buildings.

If you are planning to visit the Dana Medical Library or the Cook Chemistry/Physics Library during evening hours or on UVM Holidays, it is a good idea to call ahead for directions and entry.

  • Dana Medical Library: 656-2200
  • Cook Chemistry/Physics Library: 656-2268

Areas of Rescue Assistance and Emergency Telephones

"Areas of Rescue Assistance" and emergency telephones are located near the main elevator on the 2nd and 3rd floors of the Bailey/Howe Library. Emergency exits on the first and ground floors are at ground level. You might wish to ask staff members at our main Circulation Desk or Reference Desk about emergency procedures.

IMPORTANT:
Any physically challenged individual studying in the Chemistry/Physics Library should alert library staff just in case there is an unexpected emergency requiring immediate evacuation of the building.

Drinking Fountains

Accessible drinking fountains are available on the first, second and third floors of the Bailey/Howe Library and next to the main reading room in the Library Research Annex. Please ask for directions at the Dana Medical and Cook Chemistry/Physics Libraries.

On-Screen Keyboard for Windows 2000

On-Screen Keyboard is an accessibility utility that displays a virtual keyboard on the computer screen that allows people with mobility impairments to type data by using a pointing device or joystick. Besides providing a minimum level of functionality for some people with mobility impairments, On-Screen Keyboard can also help people who do not know how to type.

Location:
Available in the Accessibility Tools folder on all public computers in the Bailey/Howe Library and the Cook Chemisty/Physics Library.

Photocopying of Materials

Those needing to have materials photocopied for them should ask staff at the following locations:
  • Bailey/Howe Library: Pereiodicals Desk, second floor
  • Cook Chemistry/Physics Library: Service Desk
  • Dana Medical Library: Copy Center
  • Library Research Annex: Help Desk

Restrooms

Accessible restrooms are available on each floor of the Bailey/Howe Library and in each of the buildings housing the Dana Medical and Cook Chemistry/Physics Libraries. The Library Research Annex has an accessible restroom next to the main reading room.

For those needing such assistance, a Hoyer lifter is provided in Room 026, a ground floor toilet, in the Bailey/Howe Library, conveniently located near the public elevator in the northern section of the building.

Retrieval of Books

Staff working at service desks in all departments of all the libraries will help retrieve materials. Please make your needs known.
