Services for Users who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing

Note on Closed Captioning: While the UVM Libraries make every effort to support the reading of closed captions, not all programming has been closed captioned.

Assistive Listening Systems

All classrooms in the Bailey/Howe Library have assistive listening systems, as well as all classrooms on campus that seat more than 60 people. The Media Resources Department in the Bailey/Howe Library also has a few of these personal devices available for loan.

Closed Caption Decoder and Tuner

The Media Resources Department at the Bailey/Howe Library has a closed caption decoder that can be loaned out for use with older televisions.

Closed Caption Televisions

All public TV monitors and all individual viewing stations located in the Media Resources Department of the Bailey/Howe Library support closed captioning.

Closed Captioned Materials

Closed captioned materials in video formats are preferred. The Media Resources Department makes every attempt to purchase video materials with such capabilities if they are available.

Four Track Cassette Player

A four track cassette player is available for loan at the Media Resources Department of the Bailey/Howe Library.

TTY Telephone Equipment

TTY telephone equipment is located with the public telephones in the new Gateway Cyber Cafe and in the Reference Office, both of which are on the first floor of the Bailey/Howe Library
