How to Access Reserve Materials on the Web

If you are using a computer from a remote site you should set your workstation up in the proxy configuration. Otherwise, you may not be able to access all the reserve materials you need. For instructions on how to do this, please go to http://library.uvm.edu/guides/connect/

Instructions:

  1. Go to Course Reserves. You will need your UVM ID.
  2. Select Instructor, Department or Course (if you know the number) from the pull-down menus. Click Search to begin.
  3. Scroll down the results and click on the title of the reading you need.
  4. If the Call Number is listed as e-reserve, click on the web address (http//...) to go to the reading.
  5. Type in your Username and Password and click OK.
    • Your Username is your last name.
    • Your Password is the last seven digits of the barcode on your UVM ID.
  6. View the reading.
    • If the file is a PDF file, the Adobe Acrobat Reader software will automatically open. (If you do not have Acrobat Reader you will need to download it from www.adobe.com)
    • If the file is an html file, it will open immediately. You can also email or save html files to a floppy disk.
  7. Once the material is onscreen, you can read it from the screen or print it.
    • To print, click on the File button and go to Print.
    • If you are printing from any Cook Library computer you need to have an open Cat$cratch account with money in the account or you need to purchase a guest Cat$cratch card at the Circulation Desk.
    • If the file is sideways (Landscape), you will need to go into setup and change the orientation.

Having trouble? Go to the Bailey/Howe Library Reserve Desk or, if you're at a remote location, call 656-2134 and ask for Ron or Eric.
