Materials requested for course reserves are subject to immediate recall. If you do not return a recalled item by the date indicated on the recall notice, you will be fined and will lose your borrowing privileges until the item is returned to the library. Borrowers are advised to review the University's Academic Honesty Policy which is printed in the Cat's Tale and the Course Catalog.
You must return materials borrowed from the Bailey/Howe or Cook Chemistry/Physics Libraries at the loan desk from which they were borrowed. Books recalled to be placed on Course Reserves are to be returned immediately.
You may renew any regularly circulating item, provided another borrower has not placed a hold or recall on it. You can renew your books online, at the Patron Information Page, as long as none of your books are overdue.
If the item you need has been checked out to someone you may ask to have it held for you when it is returned. Any person having a valid UVM Library Card may have books held for them. You may make hold requests online or at the Circulation Desk. You will be notified when the requested item has been returned. It will be held for you at the Circulation Desk for ten days.
Instruction to Place Holds OnlineIf the item you need has been checked out to someone you may ask to have it recalled. Only UVM Students, Faculty, and Staff may recall books. Any records of the UVM Libraries which contain the identity of a user are strictly confidential. You, however, can obtain a list of books that you have checked out by clicking on the Patron Information Page and entering your entire barcode and last name. This page also allows you to renew books, check on pending requests or cancel them, and check on fines and fees.
All library users are subject to overdue charges if an item is not returned by the due date. One overdue notice is sent before a late charge is assessed. Failure to receive this notice does not excuse a user from overdue charges. If you do not promptly return books, you will incur late charges.
