Linking to Library Databases in Blackboard

Link to a Single Article Database

To create a link to a specific article database:

  • Go to Research Databases page on Library web site.
  • Locate Database by name of from within subject listing.
  • Mouse over database name and copy Link Location (URL) using right mouse click.
  • Paste link into Blackboard.
  • Add proxy server access prefix to URL for off-campus access

The image below demonstrates how to copy the Link Location (URL) for the database Geobase. The web address displays at the bottom of the window when you mouse over the database name.

Copy the link location

In order for a database link to work from off-campus it must be preceded by the following proxy server information:

http://ezproxy.uvm.edu/login?url=

The full link (URL) for the database above is:

http://ezproxy.uvm.edu/login?url=http://voyager.uvm.edu/cgi-bin/purl?cat....

Link a List of Article Databases for a Subject

To create a link to a list of article datbases databases and electronic reference sources for a subject:

  • Go to Research Databases page on Library web site.
  • Locate the list of databases for the subject area.
  • Copy the link location (URL) from the address bar in your browser.
  • Paste link into Blackboard.
  • Remove the extraneous "&filter_by_info_type=&filter_by_vendor="
  • Add proxy server access prefix to URL for off-campus access

The image below demonstrates how to copy the Link Location (URL) for article databases and electronic reference sources for Chemistry. Notice that the web address displays in the address bar of the browser.

How to copy the link location for a subject list of databases

In order for the links to the databases and electronic reference works to work from off-campus it must be preceded by the following proxy server information:
