The Dana Medical Library is honored to exhibit a group of photos by John Curtis documenting the experiences of Yale physicians and medical students at Mulago Hospital in Kampala, Uganda. Since 2006, physicians, residents and medical students from Yale University, led by Majid Sadigh, M.D., associate professor of medicine at Yale, have been traveling to Mulago Hospital for month long rotations with members of the Faculty of Medicine at Makerere University and Uganda’s Ministry of Health. The photographs in this exhibit document this experience. While the goal of the collaboration between Yale and Mulago Hospital is certainly to improve medical care in Uganda, anyone viewing the exhibit will recognize that education flows both ways; the impact of the experience on the participating residents and medical students is obvious.
For more information about the program, photographs and participants’ experience, see the article in Yale Medicine at http://www.med.yale.edu/external/pubs/ym_wi08/feature1_uganda.html/.
This exhibit came to the University of Vermont as part of the medical school’s Clerkship Core Bridge II curriculum. A lecture by photographer John Curtis earlier this month accompanied the exhibit. The exhibit will be in the Dana Medical Library for a few weeks. Questions may be directed to Laura Haines.
