Linking to Library Databases in Blackboard

To create a link to a single article database or a list of article databases for a Subject you will need:

• the URL for the single article database or a list of article databases for a Subject
• to ensure that all links you create will be routed through the Libraries' proxy server to permit off-campus login
• the Center for Teaching and Learning's instructions to add links to Blackboard

To find the URL for a single database:

• Go to Articles & Databases page on Library web site.
• Locate the database by name of from the list.
• Mouse over database name and copy link location (URL) using right mouse click.

The image below demonstrates how to copy the Link Location (URL) for the database CINAHL. Notice that the web address displays at the bottom of the window when you mouse over the database name.

To find the URL for a list of article databases for a subject:

• Go to Articles & Databases page on Library web site.
• Locate the list of databases for the subject area.
• Copy the link location (URL) from the address bar in your browser.

The image below demonstrates how to copy the Link Location (URL) for article databases and electronic reference sources for Communication Sciences. Notice that the web address displays in the address bar of the browser.

In order for a database link to work from off-campus it must be preceded by the following proxy server information:

• http://ezproxy.uvm.edu/login?url=

The full link (URL) for the databases above is:

• http://ezproxy.uvm.edu/login?url=http://voyager.uvm.edu/cgi-bin/purl?cat=uvmdb&id=1671807
• http://ezproxy.uvm.edu/login?url=http://library.uvm.edu/research/index.php?lib=dana&mode=subject&subject_code=comm
