PDA Sites and Information : Ob/ Gyn Clinical practice

These are suggestions and indications of what is available. Most applications are fairly inexpensive for the handheld.

UVM/ Dana Library Licensed PDA downloadable resources (free for UVM):

Access Medicine Harrison's Online, Current Obstetric & Gynecologic Diagnosis and Treatment (DeCherney and Nathan, 2003) and more. Go to My Access Medicine tab and set up account.
MDConsult After logon go to My PDA tab upper right corner and create login.
UpToDate allows download of individual articles to Pocket PC.

Not Licensed by Dana Library

This University of Alberta Medical Library site is well-organized and a good overall view of what is available. For example, they list these textbook reference sources:
  • BMJ Bookshop - a number of medical texts in PDA formats; uses MobiPocket reader. $
  • eMedicine - PDA versions of several eMedicine texts. $
  • HandHeldMed - provides a large selection of medical texts for your PDA including Harrison's Companion Handbook, Merck Manual, Taber's, DSM-IV, Nursing Care Plans, 5 Minute Clinical Consult, Red Book 2000, and more. $
  • RediReference - texts and guidelines in several clinical areas. $
  • Reference Sources from HealthyPalmPilot - a listing of commercial and free reference tools. AKA pdaMD.com
  • Unbound Medicine - a good selection of reference textbooks, particularly in pediatrics ($); also free trial access to Clinical Evidence on PDA via CogniQ.
Check also the commercial site CollectiveMed.com
The basic Epocrates Drug reference is still free. Epocrates now has other titles for which they charge.
Medical ToolBox Software has an OB/Gyn StatTracker Free demo. $25 to purchase.
