Endnote X vs Endnote Web

UVM now has available the newest version of the Endnote program, Endnote X, available for download. In addition to this new desktop software application, Endnote is now also offering EndnoteWeb, a web based application, freely available to UVM affiliates at their website: http://endnoteweb.com/.

Both Endnote X and EndnoteWeb offer many of the same features but with some significant differences.

EndnoteWeb offers the basic features of: Importing, saving, and organizing and editing references, and citing and formatting papers with bibliographies.

The desktop Endnote X application allows those features plus others:

  • Creating and saving advanced searches
  • Greater customization
  • Working offline
People can use a combination of both Endnote X and EndnoteWeb; which one you prefer depends upon your research, writing and citing needs and habits. EndnoteWeb may be most helpful for undergraduates, Endnote X for researchers.

For more information about the differences between the two programs visit: http://endnoteweb.com/.

Dana offers classes in both Endnote X and EndnoteWeb each semester. Look for the announcement of our classes on our website: http://library.uvm.edu/dana/services/currentclasses.html
