Printing

Fees

  • CATScratch on UVM ID or a Guest card purchased from the vending machine: 7¢ per side for black and white, 25 ¢ for color.
  • Guest card obtained from the Circulation desk: 10 ¢ per side for black and white, 25 ¢ for color.

Purchasing a Guest card

  • Guest cards may be purchased from the vending machine located adjacent to the photocopiers, in the rear of the library.
  • $5.00 is required to purchase the Guest card. The card comes out of the machine with a $2.00 balance.You may add to the balance of the card using this same machine.

Send your print job to the printer

  • Click on the print icon in your browser or other program.
  • Default is Dana_Black and White and double-sided. Change to Dana_Color or "Duplex none" if needed.
  • When prompted, type a name in the box for your print job so you can identify it at the print station. Your name works just fine.
  • Type in a (case sensitive) password for your print job. Your name again works for this, too.
  • Go to the print station by the Circulation desk.
  • Swipe your card (UVM ID, Guest card, or Department card) in the card reader.
  • Click on your print job on the list.
  • Click on the print button.
  • Enter the password you gave your print job and click OK.
  • Your print job should print.

Printing different file types and web page layouts

Internet Explorer

These instructions assume you are using Internet Explorer 6. If you are using other version of this browser, the tab and button names may be slightly different.

  • Print Preview (find blank pages, landscape pages, etc.)
    • Go to File | Print Preview.
    • Look at the document to be sure it will print properly.
    • If no problems are encountered, click on the Close button to close Print Preview and print as usual.
    • If the document does not look correct in the Print Preview, see below.
  • Landscape
    • If text and images run off the right side of the page, the page must be printed landscape.
    • Click on the Close button in the Print Preview bar to close Print Preview.
    • In the Internet Explorer menu bar, go to File | Page Setup.
    • Click in the radio button beside Landscape.
    • Click on OK.
    • Go to File | Print.
    • Click on Print.

    Note: printing will continue in landscape until you change the page orientation back to Portrait.

  • PDF Files
  • Print Preview does not work with PDF documents. Use the print icon in the Adobe Acrobat tool bar to print.

  • Frames
  • Pages are blank in Print Preview.

    • Left-click in the frame you want to print to select it.
    • In the Internet Explorer, go to File | Print.
    • Click on the Options Tab.
    • To print the selected frame, click in the box beside "This Frame Only".
    • Click on the Print.
  • Select Pages to Print
    • In the Internet Explorer menu, go to File | Print.
    • Click in the radio button to the left of Pages and type the page numbers of the pages to be printed in the box. For example: 1,3,5-12.
    • Click on Print.
