      Encouraging highly effective communication between clinicians and seriously ill patients and their loved ones is at the core of the Vermont Palliative Care Communication Initiative. Find out about the rationale, design, and implementation of this innovative and timely public health project from a national expert and UVM's first endowed chair in palliative medicine.

      Location: Carpenter Audiorium

      Head to your local library, e-reader or bookstore and get a copy of When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi, M.D., a neurosurgeon diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer who died in 2015. The group will discuss such issues as how we deal with an unexpected and undeserved impending death, determine the legacy we leave behind, and how we wish to be remembered.
