The Charles A. Dana Medical Library serves the information needs of the Academic Health Center at the University of Vermont. The Academic Health Center is comprised of the faculty, staff and students at UVM's College of Medicine and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences, as well as the physicians and other health care providers at the University of Vermont Medical Center. The Library also meets the health sciences information needs of the University of Vermont's undergraduate and graduate programs and is open to the citizens of the state of Vermont with health sciences information questions.
The general public is welcome to use the library materials within the library. Online materials are available, but many require that you be in one of the libraries to use them. Please Note: Some materials, such as course reserves and some online databases, are restricted to use by UVM faculty, students and staff.
To enter Dana, located in the Medical Education Center, after 7 pm and on weekends:
The door to enter Dana is to the east of Converse Hall. These vestibule doors are open until 9 pm nightly and on weekends. Cat Card access is required after 9pm. All other entrances to the Rowell, Given, the Medical Education Center and Research buildings are locked at 6 pm nightly and on weekends.
NOTE: For people who have Cat Card access to Given and Medical Education Center: there are doors that will lock at 6 pm and on weekends at the south end of the corridor in front of the Library. If you visit the Library after 6 pm, you will need your Cat Card to reenter the Medical Education Center.
Visitors to Dana can park in the University's Guest Parking area on the east side of Jeffords Hall (blue on the UVM Parking and Transportation map), beyond the water tower. To get to Dana, walk toward the Health Science Research Facility (HSRF) building keeping the HSRF building on your right. Walk around Rowell Hall, keeping Converse Hall on your left entering through the main entrance in the middle of the Concourse.
After 6 pm visitors may park for free at the Given (Water Tower) parking lot (green on the UVM Parking and Transportation map). From there you should walk around to the back of the Research building and then walk toward Rowell Hall keeping the Health Science Research Facility building on your right. Walk around Rowell Hall, keeping Converse Hall on your left, enter through the main entrance in the middle of the Concourse.
Directions from UVM campus: For patrons coming from Bailey/Howe: walk toward Rowell Hall keeping Rowell Hall on your right. Enter Dana from behind Converse Hall through the main entrance in the middle of the Concourse.
Direction from the University of Vermont Medical Center: From Second Floor West Pavillion, follow the signs to the Medical Education Center, Davis Auditorium, Dana Medical Library.
