Abstract:
Constriction of the ascending aorta of cats to 50% of its external diameter produced animals which while exhibiting none of the clinical manifestations of heart failure had significantly elevated systolic pressures (p < .05) and a significantly elevated systolic hypertrophy, normalized for body weight (p < .001 and p < .05), when compared with control animals. Myosin B from the left ventricle of each control and experimental animal was isolated concurrently in tetramethyl ammonium chloride (TMAC) and KC1. TMAC was found to be an inert salt having no effect on cat cardiac myosin B ATPade activity while potassium ion substantially stimulated such activity.
