Abstract:
Schools, being the microcosms of the diversity that characterizes modem societies reflect the problems and tensions between cultural and ethnic groups. More and more schools around the world are faced with difficulties creating harmony between students of diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. Knowing how to resolve these issues using a Global Competence approach becomes a prerequisite to establishing a learning climate in which all cultures and identities are appreciated and respected. From then on, a humanistic, cultural, and international education is needed to teach present and future generations a spirit of openness and understanding towards others, the diversity of their cultures, their history, and the oneness of humanity. Such education would foster not only a genuine interest and respect for difference, but also equip our students with the ability to navigate in a borderless and complex world, to diagnose the signs of intolerance, to learn new way of substituting violence with peaceful means, of resolving existing conflicts, initiating reconciliation, while preventing future atrocities. Therefore, all subject matters can be put to use, to sow the seeds of a culture of peace at a community and global level, and to build feelings of althrism, mutual respect, sharing and solidarity, without which it is impossible to guarantee the existence of a human society that is just and peaceful for all.
