Finding materials in Special Collections

To help you find materials in Special Collections, several useful tools have been developed and are described below. For most topics you will want to search in more than one place.

NOT ALL OF OUR MATERIALS ARE CATALOGED, please contact us for further assistance.

Library Catalog
Most of the printed material in Special Collections is accessible through the Library Catalog. Call numbers are preceded by WILB (Wilbur Collection) and RARE (Rare Book Collection).

Special Collections Database
This database contains records for manuscript collections, postcards, stereoviews, photographs, reference files, broadsides, ephemera, and other materials.

Finding Aids for Manuscript Collections
This database contains detailed finding aids to some of our manuscript collections at Special Collections as well as some finding aids from other institutions. Look here for detailed information about a manuscript collection.

George Perkins Marsh Online Research Center
The George Perkins Marsh Research Center provides access to transcriptions and images of selected letters in Marsh's correspondence.

Center for Digital Initiatives
The Center for Digital Initiatives is a gateway to digital resources at the University of Vermont. These include materials such as photographs, letters, speeches, and documents, with a current emphasis on public policy and Vermont history.

ArcCat
ArcCat is a cooperative catalog describing archival and manuscript collections held by various Vermont institutions, including Special Collections manuscript collections that can also be found in the Special Collections Database above.
