General Information
Media Formats, Section 107 of the Copyright Act, identifies fair use factors, but "fair use" for media formats is difficult to interpret. Fair use for materials in media formats is interpreted by guidelines developed by the Consortium of College and University Media Centers (UVM is a member of this organization).
"Fair Use Guidelines for Educational Multimedia," are set out in a non-legislative report adopted by the Subcommittee on Courts and Intellectual Property, Committee on the Judiciary, U.S. House of Representative, on September 27, 1996. You may view these guidelines at:

Guidelines for Copying Media Materials
Due to copyright restrictions, duplicating materials for personal use is prohibited. You are allowed to copy a limited percentage of a media item for educational purposes, such as using it for a class presentation.
