In Russian with English subtitles (108 min.). Battleship Potemkin = Bronenosets Potemkin (1925) DVD 43, VID 548, VID 1946 Potemkin re-creats the 1905 mutiny on the battleship "Prince Potemkin." It focuses a mutiny by the battleship's crew and the subsequent massacre of civilians - that reflects the spirit of the times. Silent film with Russian intertitles and English subtitles and music score (74 min.). Classics of the Early Soviet Cinema (1996) VIDR 405 A collection of five Soviet classics including Strike (1925), directed by Eisenstein, in which a 1912 strike of Russian factory workers is brutally put down by the authorities (398 min.). Classics of the Early Soviet Cinema (Series II) (1998) VIDR 404 A collection of seven early Soviet classics including Eisenstein's Bezhin Meadow (1937) a tale in which peasant settlements were forcibly reorganized into state affliated collective farms (524 min.). Ivan the Terrible (Part 1) (1944) DVD 1070 Opens with the coronation of Ivan, Grand Duke of Moscow, as the absolute ruler of all the Russians. His chief goal will be to unify all Russian lands, and this part details his successive battles, ending with Ivan's self-imposed exile to await the call of the Russian people In Russian with English subtitles (96 min.). Ivan the Terrible (Part 2) (1945) DVD 1067 Begins with Ivan's return to Moscow, to find that his dream of reuniting all of Russia is all but impossible. October 1917 (1927) DVD 337 The events leading up to the Russian revolution of October 1917; the period of Kerensky's provisional government until the organized rising of the proletariat. Secret Life of Sergei Eisenstein (1990) VID 1662 Uses rare archive material to tell the story of one of the worlds greatest film-makers, as he saw it. Directed by Gian-Carlo Bertelli (60 min.). Sergei Eisenstein in Alma-Ata, 1941-1944 (1998) VID 7450 This film documents, with contemporary interviews, production stills, and archival footage the period that famed director Eisenstein spent away from Moscow during World War II. Directed by Igor Gonopolsky. In English and Russian with English subtitles (72 min.). Strike (1925) VID 4382 A 1912 strike of factory workers is brutally suppressed by the authorities. Silent film with Russian and English subtitles (64 min.). Ten Days That Shook the World (1928) VID 4382 Epic film that details the events which led to the Russian Revolution of October, 1917.
